Utah State Capitol: July 2021

During a cross-country road trip in the summer of 2021, I stopped at the capitol of each state along the way. Every state in the US has a capitol, but each one is built different and uniquely serves as a symbol of the people and culture of that state. A county courthouse is similar: almost every one of the 3000+ counties in the US has one, but each looks different and symbolizes the unique qualities of that jurisdiction.

When traveling from point A to point B, I enjoy taking the path less traveled and visiting different landscapes and towns. After that particular road trip, I decided to start documenting my travels by collecting counties. According to Wikipedia, county collecting is defined as “keeping track of the counties and other major census divisions one has visited in the United States.” I take it a step further and aim to visit every county seat and photograph the courthouse, which is then subsequently updated on this site.

The map below displays all counties I have checked off thus far, along with the year I visited. Have I visited your home county? Which county’s courthouse is your favorite? Let me know by leaving a comment or contacting me!
